Who we are
The Playmap is operated by The Playmap Melbourne, ABN 80 734 165 894. Questions about this policy or how we handle personal information can be sent through our Contact page.
Browsing without an account
You can browse The Playmap and save places and events without creating an account. When you save something while signed out, an anonymous identifier is stored on your device so your saved items can be recognised when you return. It is not linked to your name, email or other account details.
If you sign in
Signing in is optional. It exists so your saved items can follow you between devices. If you sign in, including with Google, we receive your email address and a sign in identifier and associate your saved items with your account. We never receive your Google password.
Location
If you choose to use your current location, your browser provides location information so we can sort nearby places and events. We use it to run that search and do not attach your precise location to your account or save it as part of your profile.
Contributions
If you submit a new place, event or correction, we store the information you send us. If you choose to provide an email address, we use it to contact you about that submission, including if it is published. Email is optional. We do not ask for your children's ages or other details about your children.
Automated review of contributions
Some contributions are checked using Anthropic's Claude API to help assess accuracy and completeness before publication. We send the content needed for that review to Anthropic. We do not intentionally include your email address or account details unless they form part of the content you submit.
Analytics and cookies
We use Google Analytics, or GA4, to understand how people use The Playmap and where the site can be improved. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies and may collect information such as pages viewed, device and browser information and approximate location derived from your IP address.
Google Maps and Places
We use Google Maps and the Google Places API to show maps and details such as opening hours. Your use of these features is also subject to Google's privacy policy and terms.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal information, run third party advertising networks or build advertising profiles.
Your choices
You can remove saved items from a signed out device by clearing The Playmap's site data in your browser. If you have signed in, you can ask us to delete your account and the saved items associated with it.
If you submitted a contribution with an email address and want that email removed from our records, contact us. You can also ask for access to personal information we hold about you or ask us to correct it.
Where your information is stored
The Playmap uses third party service providers including Supabase, Google and Anthropic.
Our Supabase database is hosted in Japan. Google and Anthropic may also process information outside Australia. We only share information with these providers where it is needed to operate the relevant feature.
How long we keep things
Saved items remain until you clear them or ask us to delete them. Contributions are kept for as long as they are needed to manage and improve listings. Contact messages are kept for as long as they are needed to respond to and manage the enquiry.
Google Analytics event data is retained for 2 months and user data is retained for 14 months.
Children's privacy
The Playmap is built for parents and carers, not for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 and we do not ask for details about your children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

If you have a question about this policy or think we have mishandled your information, contact us first and we will try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied, you can find information about making a privacy complaint through the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if what we collect or how we use it changes, and update the date above.
